Holli Farrell is a warm, understanding, licensed clinical psychotherapist. A parent of twenty-one years and mother of three (including twins), Holli is an experienced child behavioral and parenting consultant, who has passionately dedicated her specialized, counseling practice to successfully and creatively meet the emotional needs of young children. Holli is the Founder of Playful Nature Kids Counseling, LLC, whose mission is to effectively help children in unique, fun and creative ways – minimizing the anxiety, guilt and resistance many parents anticipate when considering therapy services for their children. At Playful Nature Kids Counseling LLC, children engage in their healing process amongst a variety of the highest quality, evidence-based play, sand tray, expressive arts and nature therapies in a comfortable, non-judgmental, kid-friendly environment. Parents can relax knowing their children are expressing feelings, resolving problems, improving behaviors and learning to cope effectively in fun, safe and personalized sessions they enjoy coming to! A non-judgmental, active listener and a compassionate, client-centered, solution-focused therapist, Holli is passionate about her work and provides a well-rounded, eclectic approach enabling her to combine several, different therapy modalities in session to tailor a unique and personalized treatment plan, best supporting each individual child. Holli earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources and a Minor in Communication Arts from St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida. Pursuing her passion to help children and study behavioral mental health, Holli continued her education to achieve a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling, with perfect academic standing, from Nova Southeastern University. Holli also successfully completed a post-graduate clinical internship at APPLE Services Trauma Center/Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, effectively counseling children and adolescents of sexual trauma using creative play therapy and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral techniques (TF-CBT). Additionally, Holli supported affected parents by providing individual therapy, parent consulting, family therapy, psycho-educational information, positive coping strategies and resource services. Holli continued to assist families in need by providing additional years of clinical service for at-risk children, teens and adults in agency, school and non-profit settings.
Holli is often referred by well-respected area clinicians and professionals for her specialized play therapy services, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and applicable for certification as a Registered Play Therapist with the Association for Play Therapy (APT). Holli is a Certified Sand Tray Specialist (C-STS), completing Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 of specialized sand tray therapist training at the APT-accredited Southern Sand Tray Institute and is also an EAGALA Certified Mental Health Professional in equine assisted psychotherapy – completing clinical training hours approved by the American Psychological Association. Holli remains fresh and current in the industry by continually reviewing current, evidence-based, field research and regularly attending professional therapeutic trainings, conferences and clinical consultations. As such, Holli has completed Dr. Robert Jason Grant’s AutPlay Therapy Certification Program – “a play therapy and behavioral therapy approach to working with children and parents affected by Autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.” As the first Certified AutPlay Therapy Provider in Florida, Holli is excited to utilize these progressive, effective techniques in session with clients. Holli has also attained a certificate in Animal-Assisted Therapy from the University of New Hampshire and is an honored recipient of a highly-trained, therapeutic Facility Dog, named Luann, from the world-renowned, accredited, non-profit organization Canine Companions for Independence (CCI), which she successfully integrates into client treatment sessions as needed. Additionally, Holli has attended the Yoga Teacher Training Program at Bella Prana Yoga and Meditation – further enhancing her skills and expanding her “therapy tool box” in order to provide clients the additional treatment benefits of both animal-assisted and yoga therapies. Holli has many years of experience working effectively with young children, adolescents, teens and adults in various clinical, therapeutic and educational settings in the Tampa and Miami communities. Holli has also volunteered numerous hours of service to benefit several community organizations with a child and mental health focus including Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, Kids and Canines, Traverse Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, Healing Hearts with Equine, Hillsborough County Public Schools and several expressive arts, educational programs and non-profit agencies.
